Kent Lavender Fields
We can’t be the only people who saw countless beautiful photos of lavender fields on Instagram and decided to take a trip ourselves because of it?! We started following Castle Farm, Kent and soon enough we had booked our tickets and were excitedly discussing our trip.
At Castle Farm Kent you can opt for a 45-minute walk in their iconic, deep purple “Folgate” Lavender Field or you can choose a 2-hour slot to picnic in the larger Ladybird Lavender Field, which contains over 60,000 lavender plants.
The walk costs £4 per adult, £2.75 per child (aged 5-15), with free entry for children aged 4 and under. For the lavender picnic, tickets cost £11 per adult, £6 per child, and again, free entry for children aged 4 and under. It is also worth noting that each ticket includes a £0.25 booking fee, which is non-refundable, and as far as I’m aware booking ahead is required.
We opted for the 45-minute walk and went on a cloudy Saturday morning. Lucky for us the weather held out, only raining as we were heading back to our cars, and didn’t prevent us from having a wonderful time. There was a short talk at the beginning and then we were free to explore.
Although we didn’t get any rain during our walk the rainfall from the previous day meant that the lavender was wet and we all ended up with drenched legs by the end of it. The lavender field is on quite a steep slope and the ground is understandably uneven, so bear this in mind if any of your party have mobility issues.
We sat on the infamous bench for some family photos (kindly taken by a lovely Mama who was visiting the fields with her children) before strolling up through the lavender to the top of the field to take in the views. We then chose to walk down the side of the field rather than back through the lavender, before heading back to the cars.
All in all, the views were pretty, the children had a fab time and we got some lovely photos. We personally feel it was quite expensive for less than an hour (even with the toddlers going free, four adults cost us £17) but it was a fun experience for sure. As we needed to drive an hour to get there it is not likely to be something we do every year but we are glad we went. It’s also worth noting that as well as a cute little truck selling lavender goodies made on the farm they also have a little food and drink truck. An added bonus came in the form of cows in the field next to the car park, the children loved going over to see them before and after our walk!
