September: Seasonal Foods
September is a magical time in the kitchen because you still have all the beautiful fresh produce of summer (our tomatoes are still growing everywhere!) but you can now add in the more autumnal crops like apples, pumpkins, parsnips, etc. With all of this wonderful fresh bounty and the promise of brisker mornings by the end of the month, I find September to be a beautiful time.
So, what’s in season?

With all of these wonderful seasonal gems available to us, it’s no wonder I always feel particularly inspired at this time of year. Bring on all the ‘bowl’ foods! Soups and stews (anything with dumplings), slow-roasted veggies, and beautiful colours. It can be tough, my little ones still aren’t keen on foods with vegetable ‘lumps’ in, but it doesn’t stop me from cooking it all!
I also love to make breakfast muffins and cakes at this time of year, you cannot beat a piece of plum cake and a hot cup of tea while it rains, and my two adore apple and carrot muffins for breakfast.
What will you be cooking up? I am looking forward to sharing my experiments here over the next few months.
Happy Monday
