My Word of the Year
I was listening to a podcast towards the end of last year (The Stories We Tell with Joanna Gains on Audible) and she talked about how she picks a Word of the Year at the beginning of each year. I loved this idea, it resonated with me so much, in fact, my word popped into my head straight away. And with my word came the realisation that while that word is perfect for me, I would also need a family Word of the Year.
The reason that I loved this idea so much is that by having a Word it can help you focus on what’s important to you in a really simple way, and help ensure that all the decisions that you make are heading in the right direction for your wants and needs.
So my personal word this year is peace. I want to come to terms with the fact that after a long batter and a lot of upsetment there will be no more children to join our family, I want to come to peace with my chronic illness and the effects it’s having on my body, make peace with the new role I now have as a Mama with two children who are out and about and don’t need me all the time, and hopefully get my anxiety under control to give my mind some peace (and sleep!).
As for the family Word of the Year I am thinking it will be Belonging. Due to school and nursery changing the structure of our days, we all get a lot less time together, and the time we do get is full of super tired, and often grumpy, children. I am hoping that by focusing on creating a sense of Belonging, alongside my personal goal of Peace, I will be able to create a calm, loving and supportive environment to enable us all to spend as much quality time together full of nature, adventure, creativity, and love.
Have you ever heard of a Word of the Year before? Is it something you practice? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Happy Monday
