2022 Achievements List

We’re now three weeks into January and I am sitting on the sofa with sick children….again. Apart from some kite flying and a trip to Wildwood, we have spent a lot of our time indoors with broken legs, coughs, colds, and flair-ups. It seems to be the way of things for us in January so to lift my spirits I am going to write down last year’s achievements list.

This is a list that I make on my phone every year but for the last two years I have lost my phone in February and thus our list with it which has been heartbreaking. So while I have no intentions of ever losing another phone again, I thought it would be a good moral booster for me to make a note of the list here, and a timely reminder that January is meant for resting and that there are other seasons ahead for adventuring.

The joy of an achievements list is that it can be anything you want it to be. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “big” or “small” thing. As long as it’s personal to you (and your family) then that’s all that matters.

Our list is a combination of life events that I want to mark and remember along with personal achievements and other events that have helped us move forward as a family. By making a note of them throughout the year I’m sure you’ll be surprised by how they all add up.

Locke List

  • Brother Bear dry overnight
  • Repainted the hallway
  • Repainted the children’s room
  • Painted children’s furniture and created a beautiful explorer room
  • New lights fitted in the master bedroom, hallways, bathrooms, and living room
  • Everyone got better at paddleboarding
  • Little Bear learned to write her name
  • The nursery was turned into an office(ish)
  • Huge cherry harvest
  • First family camping trip
  • Paul got a new job
  • First family castle trips – Dover and Walmer
  • Little Bear started parkrun
  • The Bears are learning to roller skate, skateboard, and scooter
  • Little Bear started school!
  • Brother Bear started nursery!
  • Big garden harvest of tomatoes, cucumbers, and courgettes
  • Grew our own Cinderella pumpkin
  • Livvy started volunteering at Beavers (and then left)
  • Little Bear passed duckling one, two, and three in swimming
  • Brother Bear passed duckling one and two in swimming
  • We finally got the downstairs toilet fixed
  • Whole new roof on the house
  • We created a magical Christmas together

As you can see there is nothing grand or particularly “special” to others on this list, but that is really not the point of it. It’s an incredibly special list to us and hopefully will be fun for the children to look back at in 5, 10, or 15 years for them to see how far they have come. For us all to see how far we have come. It’s the small acts every day that makes the difference.

Though maybe not today. Today is comfort food, blankets, sofa cuddles, and Paw Patrol. But once this cough has gone and our January rest is behind us, then we’ll start to look ahead.

Do you keep a list of achievements or memories?

Livvy
