Homemade Christmas Cards

I’m not a massive fan of shop-bought cards. I feel like they are very expensive and never really feel like they have something that fits the individual perfectly, which makes sense as they are made for the masses (thinking on this though, some friends have gotten us some amazing cards, so maybe it’s my cruddy shopping ability?), but I do absolutely love it when I get a homemade card, especially from one of the children.

I enjoy making our Christmas cards as I find painting really helpful for my mental health. I like to pick a colourful and simple pattern that I can easily draw over and over and then zone out while I paint it. I can get lost in all the pretty colours and patterns and only really come back to myself when I need to do the outline. I like to look on Pinterest for inspiration and then I simply have fun with them. If they end up looking too bad to send (they haven’t yet) then it’s not really a loss to me as it’s been an evening or two’s worth of anxiety help.

I also adore seeing the children’s Christmas cards. For them, I just draw simple outlines onto the card, like snowmen, stars, etc and let them do whatever colours they fancy. I love how free they are with their colour choices, they don’t worry at all that it may look silly. To them, it’s 100% about experimentation and this, to me, is true art.

I’ve included a few photos of the cards we have made so far in hopes of inspiring you to give it ago and get creative in whatever way works for you.

Christmas cards and carols,

Livvy and Summer
