4 Smoothie Recipes
We absolutely love smoothies in this house, we have at least one a day and if BrotherBear had his way we would have at least three a day, every day! I am not a fan of shop-bought smoothies as they tend to be super high in sugars, low in fibre and they also come with a lot of packaging and a high price tag.
If you’ve read any of our other blog posts you will probably have picked up on the fact that we are frugal. We live as a family on one budget (through choice, one we are very happy with) and although we put any extra money we have on foodie treats, a smoothie a day for everyone could get rather expensive.
In order to keep the smoothies within our budget and also healthy, we make our own oat milk and use frozen fruit. The use of frozen fruit not only makes it much, much cheaper but it also means you can have a mix of fruits on offer should your littles want a specific flavour.
Sunshine Smoothie
This is what my children call mango smoothies and I think it’s the best name!
Makes 4 250ml drinks.
Ingredients
- 1 handful of oats
- 600ml of water
- 2-3 bananas
- 2 cups of frozen mango
Method
- Put the oats in your blender and pour the water on top. Sometimes I leave them to soak for an hour or so as there are many benifits to soaking your grains, it depends how much time I have. Simply whizz the water and oats for 30-40 seconds to create oat milk.
- Next add your bananas and whizz again.
- Finally add your frozen mango and whizz for a final time until the mixture is smooth.
Minnie Mouse Smoothie
This one was also named by my children – we are huge Disney lovers in this house and anything named after a Mickey Mouse character is a win!

- 2-3 bananas
- 2 cups of frozen strawberries
Method

What are your favourite smoothie flavours? Do you manage to get any vegetables into your smoothies that your littlies don’t notice? I can get a small handful of spinach into the mixed berry one but that’s all I’ve managed so far.
Enjoy,
